Australia’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate stood at 4.1% in April 2025, unchanged from the previous month and in line with market expectations. The number of unemployed people increased by 6,300 to 621,100, with those seeking full-time jobs rising 9.3 thousand to 433 thousand while those looking for part-time jobs dropped by 2.9 thousand to 188.1 thousand. Meanwhile, employment rose by 89,000 to a new record high of 14.64 million, significantly surpassing forecasts of a 20,000 gain, after an upwardly revised 36.4 thousand rise in March. Full-time employment increased by 59,500 to an all-time high of 10.07 million, while part-time employment grew by 29,500 to a record peak of 4.57 million. The participation rate increased to a three-month high of 67.1% from 66.8% in March and above forecasts of 66.8%. The underemployment rate edged up to 6.0% from 5.9%. Monthly hours worked in all jobs climbed by 1 million to 1,964 million.
